Seven Bury riders raced in last week’s annual hill climb-time trial at Holcombe Brook. The come-and try-it event, hosted by the Bury Clarion and sponsored by the Co-operative, was held this year as part of Bury’s “Be part of it” Olympic Celebrations.
Nick Hall was the fastest Bury rider up the Lumb-Carr-Road course with 2mins 31secs, followed by Paul Whatmough with 2mins 32secs. Martin Usher, on his first attempt, stormed up a second later with 2mins 33secs. These times placed the Bury-trio 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.
Other Bury riders in order of finish were:
Andy Horner: 8th, 2mins 38secs
Stephen Side: 10th, 2mins 47secs(Personal best).
Neil Duckworth: 18th, 3mins 46secs(personal best).
John Yates: 19th, 4mins 16secs.
Martin Usher raced in the LVRC track championships at the Newport Velodrome last week, winning 3rd in his age group during the scratch race.
Andy Horner was on fighting-form at the weekend when he rode Belper CC’s 25-mile TT in Derbyshire. In horrendous weather conditions, the Bury-rider finished with an excellent time of 55-mins 34-secs.
