Simon Yates sprinted to spectacular victory last weekend in the Bikeline Tom Simpson Memorial Junior Road Race, near Doncaster. The event, part of the prestigious National Junior Race series, saw seventeen-year-old Simon take on a starting field of 78-riders including his twin brother, Adam. With the race splitting into three groups, Simon found himself in a leading bunch of around 15-riders. His position within the group allowed him to become part of a breakaway, which won him the bunch sprint. Adam tried to bridge the gap between the group and the breakaway riders, with over a minute between them, and managed to make up all but a few seconds! Simon eventually won the event after a dramatic chase on the final hill. Adam wasn't far behind in sixth. Andy Horner was back in Tarleton, Merseyside, last Thursday for the Southport Ten, held by Southport Cycling club. Although falling short on the previous week's time, the Bury time trialist still managed a very respectable time of 22mins 57secs in the 10-mile event. This placed him fourth out of thirty six riders.
