Club Report 2/11/10

Bury Clarion excelled in last week’s Manchester Regional Track League, with John Yates winning the 16-lap scratch race and taking second place in both the Devil Takes The Hindmost and the 16-lap points race. Meanwhile Nick Hall posted 2nd in the 20-lap points race, whilst Bob Duckworth made third in the 1Km event.

Time changes all things and so the days of massed Sunday Club runs on heavy traffic free roads are mostly things of the past. So our club is now increasingly using the Internet to get members together for more appropriate small groups. Last Saturday was an example of the alternative when a party of six set off to Birtle for a ride over Rooley Moor. Once off road the 17.5mile route started with a 3 mile climb of 900 feet to an altitude of 1427 feet. On a sunny day we had splendid views of the Pennine Chain, the panorama view of the plain where the Manchester conurbation lies. It was good to have with us on the ride prospective new lady member Vicky and 15 years old Tom . These days it is mostly adult males who are attracted to our pastime.
