Simon Yates won last week's annual Lumb Carr Road Hill Climb Time Trial with a scorching personal best, and set a new course record! The Holcombe Brook based open event, hosted by the Bury Clarion and sponsored by the Co-Op, saw the seventeen-year-old speed up the 1km course in a time of 2minutes 2seconds. In second place, also with a personal best, was his twin brother, Adam, with 2minutes 11seconds. Meanwhile Nick Hall achieved a personal best and a course record for the age group 42-48 when he made third place with 2minutes 24seconds Other Bury Clarion riders in order of finish were: Andy Horner 2mins 34secs(personal best). Geoff Downs 3mins 2secs(personal best). Chris Green 3mins 6secs(New member and personal best). Steve Hepworth 3mins 23secs. Matt Hall 3mins 25secs(first attempt). Dave Woods 3mins 46secs. John Yates 3mins 59secs. Alex Gill 4mins 9secs(first attempt and best time for a junior riding a mountain bike). Nick Hall clocked another personal best, yet just missed the much sought after sub-one-hour time, at Southport CC's monthly 25-mile time trial at Tarleton, Merseyside. His time of 1hour 17seconds was anything but disappointing, as it placed him third out of fourteen finishers. Simon and Adam Yates were racing again at the weekend in the National Junior Criterion Series at Lichfield, where Simon comfortably made 1st place. Adam found himself in a breakaway group of three for most of the race, but got held back in the last lap. This pushed him back into fifth place.
