Joseph Cadwallader

After his exams and a quiet period Francis Woodcock started racing again in the last couple of weeks, he suffered from some bad luck and race rust, which he will blog about later but for now I can tell you he has found his mojo again.

First was the’ In The Limits Power Meters’ Kingdom Junior Classic. This is a two-day race, held each year in Scotland. 75 riders on the start list made up of the best young riders aged 16-18, in the UK. Team Scotland, Wales, Lee Valley (London), Ribble, Giant, and a young rider from Bury Clarion ?.

The first stage was St Andrews to Falkland Hill, around 65 miles ending with a long 8-10-minute climb. Our boy raced super sensible all day, keeping out of trouble. 7 riders got away and went on to contest the win, Francis held what was left of the group (around 20 riders) to come over the line in an un-confirmed top 30 place.

He achieved 21st place on General Classification for Francis Woodcock this weekend. Moving up from 23rd place after yesterday. The level of competition at junior level is immense and for a 1st year junior riding his first junior tour event (popped a tyre in his first one) over 2 days it’s pretty good. Look through the list you will see as a club based rider he has taken some scalps.

95% of the riders in these events are with a team and often sponsored. Whilst Francis is sponsored too (Trek Manchester, Andy Horner, Nick Halls Bamford Dental Surgery and Peter Fosters Smile Cleaning Co). For a Bury Clarion rider to get this far is eye catching and all part of the master plan. Not riding for a race team makes him stand out when he gets a good result like this.

VTTA North Lancs and Lakes 50m TT

Another great effort from Team Bury Clarion at the VTTA North Lancs and Lakes 50m TT! So great to see Gavin, Joseph, James, Mark, David and Joanna as well as me put in a great showing for the club at an event 100 miles away. Personally it was a real tough challenge never spent so long in the TT position! Looking forward to the update on BAR David Stammers ? and the 100 miles on the same course in 3 weeks
