Heaton Park & the Nick O Pendle HC on 20th October 2019
By Joseph Cadwallader & Adele Vanderkamp
Another busy day for our Bury Clarion riders on Sunday 20th Ocotber, first in the morning The Nick o’ Pendle Hill Climb where Marcus Hurst knocked out a good time as our only presentative with a massive BCCC crowd support, then over to Heaton Park to watch the CX racing which involved both our smallest and biggest riders…Well Done Joseph Cadwallader, Dave Gamble, Jason McDonald, Simon Diggins, James Duffy. No information about placings or times but they all appeared to loving it !
It was a Brilliant day with the Bullets again, starting with a warm up by both riding and drinking coffee ?
The under 8s : Harry Patterson now becoming very consistent with a 7th place, Dylan Cadwallader with a outstanding ride for him too placed 11th and Alex with a very brave 21st out of 29. It was a brilliant children’s race on a superb course for them.
Under 10s Toby Diggins didn’t have the best of starts but then cut through the field like a knife through butter for a very good 8th place. Benjamin Richardson with a consistent 20th and now starting to settle in at this level
Daniel Swithenbank with the bravest ride of the day, getting round after a really hard fall on lap one. The ride of the day by Fraser Inman once again getting round on a super hard course.
In the under Under 12s Emily Middlemas gave another constant ride as she also started to settle in at this level.
Once again the support for each other was crazy and in new hoodies they really look the part, a proper team.
Nathan Loeb rode Sa Caolbra on 21st October and was not overawed.
He said ‘ I would like to say good climb back up but it wasn’t – it was bloody hard although the views are worth it (not)’
Both Dave Driver and Sally Stothard have made it to the top of Mount Teide in Tenerife over the past week too…we are left with a general impression from both its not easy!
October 20 National Clarion Hill Climb Champs by Ian Clarke
Our very own 7th placed Joanna Cebrat, solely representing Bury Clarion with a 13.17.1 time
Held at Beeley Moor – Derbyshire and promoted by Chesterfield Coureurs 5 of whom are 2nd Clarion Tuxford Clarion the fantastic Beeley Moor Hill is not far from Chatsworth House. This year, roads were closed, making for an even better attended event of some 130 riders, although only 10 riders from the Clarion had entered.
But it was still a worthy event, one where Bury’s Joanna Cebrat’s winning ladies’ time of 13.17.1 beat Lindsay Clarion from Fenland, who only a few days before had become a World Masters Team Pursuit Champion.
The men’s event was won by Jack Levick of Tuxford Clarion, in a time a little slower than last year. Last year’s 2nd place rider Oliver Humphries dropped to 4th with Stockport’s Paul Whitaker producing a fabulous time of 10 minutes and 12 secs. Whilst the 3rd fastest Clarion rider, was actually Dan Ward (2nd claim Tuxford), under the rules of 2nd claim membership, his superb ride of 10.34 does not put him in the medals, that honour goes to Oliver Humphries.
For our Joanna Cebrat It was a fantastic event as it was closed road and well worth the trouble faced from annoyed drivers by the organisers and marshals.
