Summer Newsletter 2010

John Hall (Nick’s Brother) and David Hobson. Our total membership is now 43. We join for all kinds of reasons – alas really active club cycling members are in the minority.

At Elton Liberal Club starting at 7.30pm

Thursdays 26 August and 18 November.

Members with email addresses will be sent an agenda – if you do not have an email address and want an agenda posting to you please advise PR. At the 26 August meeting Chair has suggested we consider how we might help Bob Duckworth run the National Clarion Track Championships – see below.

A few years ago we had 12 members completing our 10’s competition of 3 fastest 10’s in a year. Whilst we will not have 12 this year it would be good to see more members taking interest. There are two enter on line evening tens less than one hour’s motoring away:

Thursdays, Southport CC at Tarleton & Wednesdays Wigan Wheelers at Rainford.

Only Andy, Nick and Dave are regularly riding these events at the moment.

The club hill climb championship

This takes place on Tuesday 22 June on the usual course of Lumb Carr Road. Signing on is from 6.45pm at Hare & Hounds. Nick Hall has taken on the organisation of this event. It would be really good to have more members supporting the event this year either as participants, helpers or just coming for a social evening. See our website.

50 championship 17 July (start 16.00) Again we are using the MDTTA event for our club 50 championship. Enter (£7.00) at the very least 14 days before to: Mr I Ross, 26 Brook Rd, Lymm, Cheshire, WA13 9AH

2 Bury Clarion riders must compete for the award to be made – only Andy Horner rode last year. This event is also the National Clarion 50 championship, which has yet to be won by a Bury Clarion rider.

National Clarion Track Championships

Sunday 5 September 3pm to 5pm at Manchester Velodrome. Only accredited or otherwise experienced trackmen are eligible to compete in bunch races.

Active Racing Members

The twins continue to excel with regular top placings. Simon Yates’s winning the Somerset Junior Road Race was very pleasing for his sponsors Maxgear. Andy Horner has won two Southport CC evening 10’s and is leading the National Clarion Points competition.

Nick Hall led rides.

Monday evening training rides continue ring Nick on 07770586825 for further information. Nick also led one of his occasional bank holiday club rides on 31 May.

Eastbourne Easter Meet 2010

Six Bury members attended. Andy & Angie Horner and Bob & Christine Duckworth took their bikes and enjoyed the clubrun around the East Sussex touring area. They left the ride to have a look at the ‘Long Man of Willmington’ a mysterious figure of a man on a hillside. Archaeologists have not agreed on its origins – centuries old, millennium old or a Victorian folly. This might have been real cyclist tourist stuff but it was disappointing as its not the original but defined by concrete blocks. Andy teamed up with National Secretary Ian Clarke to ride the designated 2 up team trial championship. It was clear that Easter Meets are splendid affairs even without extraordinary efforts like those of Bury Members who contributed to the running of the 2009 meet at Ramsbottom.
